Oil Exploration

Canada's Pacific Ocean has remained free from the threat of oil and gas exploration and drilling in its offshore waters for more than thirty years.

Federal and provincial moratoria have protected the mammals, fish, seabirds and marine ecosystem from the threats of oil spills, seismic testing and pollution.

However, the BC government is pressuring the federal government to roll back this protection and open up the coast to offshore oil and gas exploration and development.

The Gwaii Haanas Tour Operators Association supports the efforts of the Oil Free Coast Alliance, an organization comprised of groups, businesses and individuals who support maintaining the moratorium on offshore oil and gas extraction and exploration in British Columbia.
